East Hill RadioSnoqualmie's community radio station March 16 Studio upgrade and other ramblingsWe have started the long awaited (for us!) studio upgrade here at the station. For those who don't know, we moved the station from Kent, Washington to our new location in Snoqualmie. The station has been running with the barest of equipment: the main computer, a small audio console and our backup transmitter. Most of the studio sat in storage because we didn't have the space to install all of the equipment. The first step was taken yesterday with the installation of more desk space. This allows us to bring in the rest of the equipment: CD players, tape equipment and turntable. Over the next several months, we plan to install new audio consoles, add more CD players and a new computer. We'd like to be able to go live for a couple of hours a day. A better studio is a step in that direction. Also we've found a location for the main transmitter and that will help our range. Right now, we're lucky to get out of our back yard. The main transmitter will increase our range from a 1/4 mile to almost a mile. That will allow us to better serve our community. Also, we want to add more transmitter locations. There are some logistical hurdles to scale, largely how to get the the sound from studio to transmitter to listener. That's an over simplification, but underneath, it's fairly complicated. More on that next time. February 12 Hello Snoqualmie! Give us your ears! We're on the air in Snoqualmie! Right now, we have a reduced coverage signal which is covering about 1/4 mile on the Ridge. We're working on ways to increase our coverage, including a new antenna and multiple transmitters.
We are airing programs from a variety of providers. Our morning programming is primarily swing music from the 1920's Radio Network and our afternoon programming comes from the Talkstar Radio Network. We are also running independent programming from a number of sources including American Sunrise Radio, Talk Nation Radio among others. We are also looking for locally produced independent programs, too. November 30 Hello Snoqualmie!Hello Snoqualmie! East Hill Radio is moving to the Snoqualmie Valley and will be Snoqualmie's community radio station. Our mission is to provide unique programming not heard on other radio stations, and to be a community resource. We will bring programming from sources like Talkstar Radio, Steeleye Media, American Sunrise Radio, KC Host and others. In addition to moving locations, East Hill Radio will change frequencies. We're moving from 1700 kHz to 1650 kHz; this in an effort to avoid strong nighttime interference from a station in Mexico. Our sign-on date is tentatively December 6. The station will be running from a temporary transmitter under extremely low power. This will be the situation until we install our permanent transmitter which we want to do as quickly as possible. So, get ready for the new voice in the Valley: East Hill Radio, AM 1650. |
